This week was my school's annual fundraiser for United Way and each day had a theme where if you paid $1 you could wear an outfit for the day. There was Mustache Monday, Sports Team Tuesday, Superhero Wednesday, Patriotic Thursday & finally College Team Friday.
I was kicking myself when I went to the mall midweek to get some accessories for Superhero Day and saw a ton of mustache-y things that I could've acquired ;)
Sports Team Day had an added bonus of jeans! I don't know what it is about wearing jeans, but it just makes any day better. I am of the belief that as someone who works with children, I think jeans should be allowed. We have a dress code for professional dress, I think that can be extended to when wearing jeans, one can still look professional in jeans.
Last year I treated my entire class to Superhero Day and gave them each a cape. I found this 6 pack on amazon.
It was only fair that I treat this year's class, cuz they are truly an awesome class. I wish I could post the picture I took of them in their capes posing as Super 2nd Grade Heroes, but it is gonna make it's way into the yearbook.
Today was Patriotic Day and as I was about to put on my July 4th-ish shirt and red sweater, but then I realized I could represent 2 sovereigns, America with my red, white & blue colors which also happen to be the same colors of my family's tribe, Tunica-Biloxi. One of my kiddos' parents go all out for these dress up days. She came in rocking a RWB Hello Kitty shirt, US Flag bandana, RWB eyeshadow and a handmade by her mom & dad too tutu.
The day ended with a PTO meeting. Before the meeting some of our 2nd & 3rd Graders performed a few tunes. I love a good children's performance, but they also make me tear up. It didn't help that those sweet little voices ended the show with Lee Greenwood's Proud to Be An American (God Bless The USA). I'm gonna brag on my babies, I had the most kids of any class show up with 8 total, all but one came up and hugged me and that's only because they had to get to his little brother's game.
I am truly blessed with these kiddos this year, I really needed this class, these kids, what sweethearts they all are. I'm going to be terribly sad when it's over.
Lovely, Darnee...so sweet. I get to hear and see what you do at work more often...it's like visiting on FB...even though we live far away, we get to stay close. You're the bomb!!!
